Gene Ho Obituary

Reverend Gene Ho, a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless generosity, has left an indelible mark on this world. Born on December 21, 1945, in Bandung, Indonesia, he embarked on a life that would be defined by passion, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving others. On April 8, 2024, Reverend Ho passed away peacefully in Mission Viejo, California, surrounded by the love of his family and the presence of God he so devotedly worshipped.

From the moment Gene met his lifelong love, Lanny Hiok Lan, at the tender age of 11, he knew destiny had presented him with a companion for life's journey. Their love story, originating in a quaint café frequented by both their families, blossomed across continents and culminated in over 53 years of marriage, a testament to the strength of their bond and the power of enduring love.

Reverend Ho's upbringing was steeped in the industrious spirit of his parents, who ran a successful garment company. Their decision to sell the business paved the way for Gene to pursue the American dream, a journey of hope and aspiration. In the United States, he found a mentor and spiritual guide in Reverend Morris Devin, who not only sponsored his visa but also nurtured his burgeoning talents.

Despite facing financial struggles and the sting of racial discrimination, Reverend Ho's spirit never wavered. He found solace and strength in music, his classically trained fingers dancing over piano keys, providing comfort and joy to many through his performances in local churches. His tireless work ethic saw him take on any job that came his way, from janitorial work to yard maintenance, each task completed with a grateful heart and a gregarious spirit.

Education was a beacon that guided Gene through his life. He earned multiple degrees, including a Bachelor's degree in Music with a minor in Bible Studies, Master's degree in Music Education from Southern California College (Vanguard University), and a degree in Computer Programming from DeVry Institute (DeVry University). His academic achievements were a testament to his belief that with God, all things are possible.

Reverend Ho's passion for education extended beyond his own learning. He dedicated himself to nurturing young minds as a teacher's aide for students with special needs, inspiring his son Bradley to follow in his footsteps. His life's work was a mosaic of service, from giving piano lessons to ministering to congregations, each piece a reflection of his dedication to uplifting others. As a man of God, Reverend Ho served tirelessly in his church, from the humblest tasks to the loftiest roles. His faith in God was the cornerstone of his existence.

Reverend Ho is survived by his devoted wife, Lanny Ho; his three sons, Stephen, Bradley and his wife Carolina, and Walter; and his five beloved grandchildren. His legacy also lives on through his lifelong friends and family both here and in Indonesia, his congregation, his piano students, and the many others lives touched by his

As we celebrate the life of Reverend Gene Ho, we are reminded that the measure of a man is not in the wealth he accumulates, but in the lives he touches and the love he spreads. His story is one of unwavering faith in God, his love and tireless support for his family, his perseverance through adversity, his heart for ministry, and his strength to live for God’s glory until his final days.

Gene’s life was a living hymn, each act of service a verse in a song of praise to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As it is written, "Well done, good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matthew 25:23, KJV), and so Gene did, with a heart full of music and a legacy of faith.
